how i read these articles
i personally use 12ft or archive to bypass paywalls; i hope this helps.
articles i read
Humans domesticated pigeons, then abandoned them. Is it time for a reappraisal?, link
we domesticated them, then abandoned them, and now a lot of people are disgusted or bothered by them. but actually they’re a nice way to enjoy nature in cities and a nice sight to pay attention to. they deserve to be bird-watched like other species, such as hawks. they also make great pets and both the males & females feed their babies milk at the beginning of their life.
What Was Hamas Thinking?, link
interesting to hear from a top member of hamas especially because it couldn’t be more obvious what they are trained to speak on and what to omit, kind of exhausting to read during this time period.
Don’t Mock Gen Z’s #LazyGirlJobs. Be Envious, link
a nice take on the #LazyGirlJob trend, i love that the author pointed out how easy it is for people to stop learning & growing as they age, and encouraged gen z to not do so either.
Survey: 66% of Americans have a negative view of tipping, link
an interesting read about tipping culture, such as how much people are tipping, when they choose to vs. not to tip at all, and how people really don’t like pre-entered tipping screens; it’s also clear how many people really wish businesses would pay their employees more.
Financial etiquette for millennials and Gen Z, link
insightful post about financial etiquette divides between generations, i honestly agree with every section.
Get a Hobby. Seriously..., link
i always love reading her articles, this one is no different. i’ve always felt like people had more free time than they admit and this confirmed that. we could all benefit from being more intentional with our time & picking up some hobbies. mine are listening to music, reading, writing, cooking, and learning other languages, like italian.
Why the Internet Isn’t Fun Anymore, link
really validating to hear others talk about how vapid content feels nowadays and how ai-generated content will probably only make this worse. everything on people’s timelines nowadays feels like it’s meant to anger them, compel them to purchase something, or just keep doom scrolling away.
Trouble on Djerf Avenue, link
“if you are profiting from an aesthetic that already exists, how can you call out others who are doing the same?” is precisely the issue here. pretty bold to try & trademark the most basic & simple designs i have ever seen in my life.
Why the Most Successful Marriages Are Start-Ups, Not Mergers, link
this reminded me of how little i am interested in marriage at this point in my life, but it was nice to see people are getting married later in life. to me, it shows that people have started to explore all that life has to offer before they focus on getting married. that’s refreshing.
Men Are Cheating With AI Instagram Bots, Because Men, link
i already have beef with what it’s like to date nowadays with social media in the picture, and the rise of ai bots only makes me more hesitant to date in the future. however, i do see why ai can be therapeutic to some people and useful as an outlet, either for intimacy or sexuality.
What do you really look like to other people?, link
i both understand and relate to wanting to know what i “actually” look like, and i’ve also had issues with inverted filters before, but it’s been 2 years since i used a face-changing filter and have started regularly taking inverted selfies. i feel liberated this way. i will continue to click “not interested” on videos that want me to find more flaws so that i buy their products or services.
books i started
